Caring for Tomorrow

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Busy Bumbles, we believe caring for children also means caring for the planet, and the world they’ll inherit. Every day, we encourage our tamariki to explore, respect and appreciate the environment through hands-on learning, outdoor activities and simple everyday actions that help make a difference.

Sustainability isn’t just something we teach. It’s something we live, and something we continue to work towards every day. From reusing craft materials and reducing waste, to nurturing gardens and caring for our local communities, Busy Bumbles is committed to creating positive habits that children can carry with them for life.

Learning Through Nature

Supporting Our Communities

Some of the best learning happens outdoors! Whether we’re creating artwork from leaves and sticks, growing plants and bee-friendly flowers or searching for bugs, our programmes encourage children to connect with nature. We reduce waste by incorporating composting, recycling and food scrap initiatives into our daily routines, giving tamariki practical ways to care for the environment while having fun.

Looking after the environment also means looking after the places we live, learn and play. Throughout the year, our children enjoy participating in school litter collections, caring for gardens and green spaces, and helping keep their communities clean and beautiful.

Reducing Waste

Inspiring Creativity

Creativity and sustainability go hand in hand at Busy Bumbles. We love giving everyday items a second life by transforming donated cardboard boxes, fabric offcuts, tin cans and other materials into imaginative craft projects.

Even our well-loved staff uniforms find a new purpose, becoming children’s paint shirts. By reusing materials wherever we can, we’re helping children discover that a little imagination can go a long way.

Small Actions

Big Impact

We know that creating a more sustainable future doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built through everyday choices, positive role modelling and a willingness to keep learning. Whenever possible, we also choose durable toys and equipment that will stand the test of time, and donate items that can still be enjoyed by others. We’re also working towards reducing paper use by further digitising our systems and processes.

By encouraging children to care for the environment, support their communities and think creatively about reducing waste, we’re helping nurture the next generation of kind, capable and environmentally conscious Kiwis.
